Sublimation - what is this?

Ordering a custom suit, gloves, shoes or team apparel? Then sublimation is a term that the brands will frequently refer to. In simple terms, sublimation is a method of printing that transfers a design into a material using ink and heat. Note, we use the term ‘into’ as you see from above the ink (colors) penetrate the outer fabric. As such, the colors and the design are permanent. This method of printing is particularly suited to the more sophisticated, fire-retardant (aramid) fabrics, as they are woven from man-made threads.

PROS -

  • Permanent

  • Colors remain bright and sharp

  • Produces high-quality, vibrant and durable designs.

  • Easy to maintain and wash

  • Multiple and flexible design options - let your imagination run free.

  • No need for embroidery or the use of other methods to display patches, logos etc.

    CONS

  • Permanent - no design, color, logo, patch etc. can be erased.

  • The ink does penetrate the fabric and, depending on the wealth of the design, can increase the weight of the suit.

NOTE: Customization via Sublimation is now offered by many suit manufacturers. However, not all of their fabrics were created explicitly for this printing method. We know Marina Racewear was, and why its customization program is so successful.
