LIFELINE FK (FLUORINATED KETONE)

The new Lifeline Zero FK Zero 360 range of car fire extinguishers are significantly smaller and lighter than the current generation of FIA certified foam systems, offering far better packaging within the confines of the modern competition vehicle. This series of systems has been awarded FIA homologation number EX.042.17. as found on FIA Techn1ical List No. 16

Note, the Lifeline FK is a name change (only), replacing the previous Novec 1230 - which was a patented brand name from 3M.

FK is short for Fluorinated Ketone. Previously 3M manufactured FK under the patented brand name ‘Novec.’ Their patent has expired, and 3M has decided to cease their manufacture ‘Novec.’

Fluorinated Ketone remained on the market and being a favorite fire suppression substance, Lifeline continued to use it (a gas) substituting Zero FK for the Novec 1230 name in their product line.

Fluorinated Ketone (FK) works by removing (absorbing) heat and blocking oxygen. It starts as a liquid but is atomized into a heavy gas as it exits the nozzle. The gas, visible as a fog, travels to reach all the surfaces. FK can penetrate and coat everything, everywhere, getting into hard-to-reach crevices and under surfaces. Powder or foam fire suppressants only coat like a blanket.

As it expands the FK vapor alone is sufficient to suppress flames. This means more can be done with less FK- meaning the bottle can be smaller with resulting less weight.

The Pros of FK

Quickly knocks down the fire, and allows the driver to exit in a non-toxic situation.

FK is non-conductive so it's not harmful to electronics and it is non-corrosive.

It is not harmful to humans except in prolonged high levels where it can cause a heart arrhythmia.

Very easy clean-up as the FK evaporates leaving no residue behind.
